Manchester City’s post‑Guardiola spending spree reshapes the squad

Guardiola's exit sparks squad turnover

Guardiola’s departure, the first after a decade, was quickly followed by a large wave of exits from the Manchester City roster. The club’s former Barcelonais saw several key figures seek new challenges.

Among the departures were former Guardiola stalwarts Bernardo Silva, John Stones and Nathan Aké. Their exits signalled the end of an era for the Citizens.

Le Rodri transfer to FC Barcelone fetched €60 million. This move represented the headline exit of the season.

Additional departures included Savinho, Tijjani Reijnders and Nico Gonzalez, whose fees helped replenish the Sky Blues’ coffers. In total, Manchester City generated €336 million from player sales.

Spending spree fuels new midfield hopes

The influx of cash enabled marquee signings, with Elliot Anderson arriving for €135 million and Ayyoub Bouaddi for €100 million. These acquisitions underline the club’s willingness to invest heavily in talent.

Since early this week, the name Enzo Fernandez has resurfaced repeatedly in Manchester City rumours. Argentine journalist Gaston Edul described the pending deal as merely a ‘question of hour’.

Fernandez was absent from the Blues squad that defeated Luton in the EFL Cup on Thursday, confirming he is not yet registered. An initial €120 million offer from Chelsea was turned down, prompting City to raise the fee to €140 million,

Should the transfer materialise, Fernandez would reunite with his former Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca, adding a familiar link to the English capital.
