Manchester City’s appeal won’t erase fans’ memories, says Paul Dickov
Manchester City is still fighting to overturn a Premier League ruling that found the club guilty of financial‑rules breaches, while former striker Paul Dickov argues that no sanction can erase the memories of the team’s greatest triumphs for its supporters.
City’s legal battle continues
The club is appealing the decision that deemed it in breach of Premier League financial regulations. The possible sporting penalties remain undefined, leaving the future of its league standing uncertain.
Manchester City’s executives maintain that they possess solid arguments to contest the ruling, and Paul Dickov (Para Paul Dickov) says he trusts the board while the appeal proceeds.
The appeal process is ongoing, and the club believes the decision can be reversed, keeping its recent successes intact on paper.
Memories beyond the courts
Dickov insists that memories cannot be taken away, stating plainly, “You cannot take away the memories.”
He pointed to the 2023 Champions League final in Istanbul, where he watched City defeat Inter Milan with his two sons in the stands, describing it as one of the best weekends of his life.
That victory formed part of the twenty trophies collected during Pep Guardiola’s ten‑year tenure, a legacy the club hopes will remain untouched by any verdict.
Dickov also recalled Sergio Agüero’s stoppage‑time winner against Queens Park Rangers in 2012, which secured City’s first Premier League title in 44 years, and the dramatic comeback against Aston Villa in the final round of the 2021/22 season that clinched another league crown.
Former teammates Enzo Maresca and Kyle Walker have echoed his view, saying the titles are not stained by the ruling and that the memories built by players and fans cannot be erased.
Regardless of any record changes, Dickov stresses that the emotional moments experienced by supporters – from Agüero’s goal to the Istanbul night – belong to the fans, not to a table or a courtroom.
