Manchester City ready for Liverpool as Enzo Maresca faces media test
Welcome to ’s LIVE blog, updated two minutes ago, as Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca prepares to face the media on Friday – his first press conference since the club were found guilty of financial breaches – ahead of a Premier League clash with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
Appeal and possible sanctions
The club confirmed an appeal after an Independent Commission ruled them guilty on 114 of 115 charges spanning the 2009‑10 to 2017‑18 seasons. The decision follows a triple punishment agreement being discussed by the Premier League chief.
City disclosed that more than £830 million of owner funding was used to inflate revenues through sham agreements, a figure that underpins the ongoing investigation.
Potential sanctions range from a hefty fine to a points deduction, or even expulsion from the Premier League, underscoring the seriousness of the case.
On the sporting side, a frosty atmosphere is expected at Anfield on Sunday, with Liverpool among four clubs that have reserved the right to launch a legal challenge against their rivals.
Speaking in an in-house interview, Enzo Maresca said his players are “not worried”, insisting they remain focused on football despite the off‑field turmoil. (Image: Tom Flathers/Manchester City FC via Getty Images)
