Manchester City eye profit as Tijjani Reijnders heads for Saudi exit
Manchester City, fresh from their preseason tour of Asia, face a squad bottleneck as Enzo Maresca looks to reshape his midfield, making the departure of Dutch international Tijjani Reijnders a strategic priority to free funds and space for new signings.
Transfer window activity
Once Manchester City concluded their preseason tour of Asia, the final weeks of the summer transfer window looked set to be busy for Hugo Viana, Ferran Soriano and company. The club’s hierarchy is preparing to adjust the roster ahead of the new campaign. Their focus is on strengthening the squad while also off‑loading players who are not central to Maresca’s plans.
City are eager to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s squad and at the same time players will be sold by City. This dual approach aims to balance the books and create room for incoming talent. The strategy reflects a broader shift toward a more physically robust midfield.
One player who could depart is Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders. The 25‑year‑old was signed for £46.5 million from AC Milan during the 2025 summer window. His limited impact last season has placed him on the transfer list.
Al Qadsiah negotiations
It has now been revealed that Sauid Arabian club Al Qadsiah are in advanced talks over a move for Reijnders. Saudi Arabian side Al Qadsiah have made their move to sign the Dutch international. Reports suggest the deal could be finalised within days.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Manchester City are close to agreeing on a transfer fee of €60 million (£51.3 million) with Al Qadsiah. This figure would represent a profit on the original £46.5 million outlay. The potential gain is described as excellent business for the club.
Reijnders had his moments last season but could not establish himself as an important member of Pep Guardiola’s side. He struggled to adapt to the physicality of the Premier League, which has become increasingly duel‑focused. Consequently, a regular first‑team role under Maresca looks unlikely.
Nottingham Forest are also eager to sign Reijnders, adding another suitor to the mix. Their interest underscores the midfielder’s perceived value despite recent challenges. However, the final decision rests with the player.
As of now, Reijnders has not confirmed whether he will move to Saudi Arabia. The outcome depends on his personal preference and the terms offered. Manchester City hope to finalise the transfer promptly, but the player’s choice remains the decisive factor.
