Manchester City eye box‑to‑box talent to add bite to midfield

Manchester City have identified a need to inject more bite and steel into their midfield, and the club have turned their attention to Lille’s rising star Ayyoub Bouaddi. The 18‑year‑old Moroccan international could fill the gap as the Mancunian side reshapes its engine room.

Enzo Maresca believes the squad could benefit from a more robust presence in the centre of the park, and Bouaddi appears capable of fighting for a regular starting place at the Etihad Stadium in the coming seasons. His box‑to‑box profile aligns with the manager’s desire for added bite and steel.

According to a recent Fichajes report, Manchester City have already agreed terms with the Morocco international and remain in discussions to sign him this summer. The Mancunian club’s pursuit places Bouaddi at the centre of City’s transfer agenda.

Bouaddi impressed with his performances in Ligue 1 last season, delivering a string of impressive displays for Lille in French football. He recorded one assist but failed to score in 42 matches across all competitions.

At 18, he is already counted among the best young midfielders in Ligue 1. His contract with Lille runs until the summer of 2029, which could make a cheap transfer difficult later in the year.

The Moroccan talent loves a tackle, reads danger well and distributes the ball accurately. Standing 1.85 m, he can win 50‑50 aerial duels and operates primarily as a box‑to‑box midfielder, though he can also be deployed defensively.

Nevertheless, questions remain about his ability to cope with the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football. Such concerns are typical for young players moving from Ligue 1 to the English top flight.
