Man Utd under fire as Carrick’s job hangs on form this season
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick is being tipped to part ways with the club next month, provided the current slump continues. Man Utd have secured only two wins from their opening six games across all competitions this season, placing the Red Devils under intense scrutiny.
Recent cup exits and league woes
The slump was highlighted by back‑to‑back defeats. Manchester City beat United 1‑0 after United were reduced to ten men, and on Wednesday night the Red Devils surrendered a 2‑0 lead to lose 3‑2 to Brighton, ending their Carabao Cup run.
With just two victories out of six, United sit low in the Premier League table, and the lack of points has amplified calls for a change.
Pundit predictions and player criticism
Pundit Gabby Agbonlahor warned that Carrick could be dismissed within four or five games if United’s form does not improve. He suggested a loss away at Fulham over the weekend could trigger a decision before the three‑week international break, potentially leading to a sacking in October.
Agbonlahor also lambasted the defensive quartet of Diogo Dalot, Leny Yoro, Ayden Heaven and Noussair Mazraoui, calling it one of the worst defensive displays in years. He added that Joshua Zirkzee appeared frustrated and lacked desire, questioning his commitment to the club.
Despite the criticism, Carrick insisted he does not feel under pressure. “I don’t feel under pressure,” he said, adding that external factors do not affect him and that he understands what happens beyond the club.
Agbonlahor also questioned United’s tactical identity, asking whether the club is looking to tap up new targets and lamenting that the Red Devils are too easy to score against, with no clear style of play evident.
