Man Utd starlet JJ Gabriel nears exit as Carrick hints future
At the training ground of Manchester United, 15‑year‑old JJ Gabriel, who turns 16 next month, has reportedly told the club he wishes to leave. Within weeks he could depart, with interest from top European sides after a reported fallout with the club’s hierarchy.
Gabriel's imminent departure
Gabriel is hailed as one of the Premier League’s best teenage footballers and has already informed Man Utd of his decision. The 15‑year‑old could exit within a couple of weeks, and his family’s strained relationship with Utd’s hierarchy appears to be a key factor. Interest has surged from several top European clubs eager to secure his talent.
Romano clarifies talks
Recent reports suggested Gabriel travelled to Barcelona to discuss a possible move, but Fabrizio Romano said on Saturday that the player has not yet flown to the Spanish giants. “That’s the situation, conversations, talks, but it’s not the player flying to talk with Barcelona because otherwise it looks like, first of all, that the player is directly involved, and at the moment, not yet,” Romano explained.
Romano added, “He is not yet at that stage, and also the player in this moment is waiting to understand which club is going to be the best solution for his future. So, I will tell you more on JJ Gabriel in the next days, but we are not yet at the stage of the player travelling to close a deal. Not yet. So for this weekend, we can stay quiet. We will see what happens in the next weeks.”
O'Rourke and Carrick weigh in
Football Insider reporter Pete O’Rourke said Gabriel is “closing in” on an exit from Man Utd and is likely to move abroad rather than join another Premier League side. “Obviously, JJ Gabriel is one of the most hotly tipped young talents in world football right now,” he told Football Insider.
Chelsea's hopes dim as 16‑year‑old JJ Gabriel eyes Europe
O’Rourke noted that Gabriel has been branded “Kid Messi” at Man United after finishing as the Under‑18s top scorer and helping them reach the FA Youth Cup final. “He’s expected to go on and enjoy a hugely successful career. Manchester United hoped it would be with them, but it does look like he is keen to move on for a new challenge,” O’Rourke said.
He continued, “Look, when you’ve got such a young talent like this, you’re going to have all the best clubs across Europe interested in him. Real Madrid have been strongly linked, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, PSG all interested.”
Head coach Michael Carrick has not spoken directly about Gabriel’s situation, but his praise for fellow youngster Shea Lacey offers a subtle contrast. “It was amazing for Shea and his family and everyone at the academy … to see him start a game at Old Trafford,” Carrick told reporters, adding that the academy’s history is “littered with” such moments and that the club “always looks forward to the next one”.
United face a talent vacuum as JJ Gabriel seeks European exit
The potential departure of a player of Gabriel’s calibre underscores a shifting dynamic within United’s youth development, hinting that the club may soon see more of its home‑grown stars seeking opportunities beyond England.
