Man Utd’s goalkeeping revamp gains pace as Bayindir heads to Spain

Manchester United are addressing a clear gap in their goalkeeper hierarchy after Senne Lammens cemented the No 1 spot, prompting backup Altay Bayindir, the Turkish international, to seek regular minutes abroad; a season‑long loan to Celta Vigo in La Liga has been agreed, with United retaining a high sell‑on clause.

Senne Lammens arrived from Royal Antwerp a year ago and was promoted to first‑choice keeper within months, keeping eight clean sheets as United finished third in the league. His rise forced the club to reconsider the role of its other custodians.

Altay Bayindir, the Turkish goalkeeper, spent most of his time at Old Trafford as a back‑up, starting just six Premier League games last term. The lack of minutes made a move abroad inevitable.

The loan to Celta Vigo runs for one season, with the Spanish side covering Bayindir’s wages. Celta hold an option to buy for £3.5 million and United have inserted a high sell‑on clause in the agreement.

Meanwhile, 22‑year‑old Czech Radek Vitek, who impressed at Bristol City, is on the verge of joining Middlesbrough in the Championship. The deal is valued at up to £14 million, with United keeping a buy‑back clause and a 35 percent sell‑on clause.

To replace departing keepers, United signed Karl Darlow from Leeds on a free transfer after he made 24 appearances for the Whites last season, helping them retain Premier League status.

The club also completed the signing of teenage goalkeeper Kit Margetson from Swansea at the end of July, adding further depth to the squad.

The reshuffle follows Andre Onana’s surprise exit after a loan to Trabzonspor and a return to the Super Lig, a move that opened the door for David de Gea’s free departure after more than a decade as United’s undisputed No 1.

The new arrangements leave United with Lammens as the clear No 1, Bayindir gaining experience in Spain, Darlow and Margetson providing backup, and Vitek heading to the Championship; United will monitor Bayindir’s progress and the potential permanent transfer while maintaining a strong goalkeeping roster.

The report, penned by Samuel Meade, Sports Brand Writer12:33, Aug, includes ImagesAltay Bayindir and notes the club’s strategic shift as it navigates the Lig and prepares for future challenges. Sky's Ultimate TV coverage will follow the developments closely.
