Man Utd's €55m chase for Senegal winger Diao intensifies
In the bustling corridors of Old Trafford, Manchester United’s scouting team pores over footage of a young winger, while Michael Carrick watches intently. The Red Devils’ co‑owners INEOS have been told the 21‑year‑old Senegal international could cost up to €55m, and the club appears convinced.
Diao’s record at Como
Assane Diao has been on the books of Como since January 2025 and is contracted until the summer of 2029. In 41 matches across all competitions he has netted 13 goals and supplied three assists, impressing scouts with performances against Genoa, Parma and Frosinone.
According to a report, Manchester United sent their scouts out some time ago and are completely convinced of the 21‑year‑old attacker’s abilities. The 4‑4‑2 outlet noted that United have taken a shine to the Senegal winger, and Michael Carrick has praised his potential.
Bidding war and co‑owner dilemma
INEOS, the Red Devils’ co‑owners, now face a problem as Como demand between €50‑55m for Diao. Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Liverpool, Everton and Brentford are also reported to be interested, adding pressure to Manchester United’s pursuit.
While United boast a forward line that includes Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, there is always room for more quality players, and the club sees Diao as a perfect fit for their attacking ambitions.
Alongside Diao, Manchester United are monitoring Tottenham Hotspur winger Luca Williams‑Barnett. The 18‑year‑old can operate as a forward or midfielder and made his senior debut for Tottenham in September last year at just 16 in the Carabao Cup.
Tottenham, however, do not want Williams‑Barnett to join United and are currently in talks with the teenager over a new contract, keeping the North London club’s options open.
Should the Red Devils secure Diao, the addition would deepen their wing options and reinforce a squad already rich in talent, signalling Manchester United’s intent to compete at the highest level.
