Man Utd Romano confirms Obi loan as Dutch side await medical

Manchester United have decided to send highly‑rated youngster Chido Obi on a season‑long loan to Eredivisie side Willem II, with his medical scheduled for today, after manager Michael Carrick concluded the striker needs senior experience to bridge the gap left by a lack of forward signings this window, Fabrizio Romano reported.

Man United spent around £150m in this summer’s window to sign Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, plus Karl Darlow and several youngsters. Yet they failed to add a left‑back, winger or striker, leaving the forward line thin. Consequently, sending Obi out on loan is seen as the most viable route to give him game time.

Loan to Willem II confirmed

Willem II have moved quickly, as the Dutch transfer window remains open until Wednesday night. The Eredivisie club are set to finalise Obi’s season‑long loan, with the medical taking place today. No buy‑option clause is included, meaning the forward will return to United at the end of the 2026/27 campaign.

Romano posted on X: ‘Chido Obi from Manchester United to Willem II, here we go! Deal done for the striker to join Dutch side on season‑long loan.’ He added: ‘#MUFC authorize medical taking place today. No buy option clause included, loan move until the end of the season – after @VI_nl.’ The player, Chido-Obi, is highly rated by the club. One condition of the deal is the absence of a purchase clause. Romano revealed the loan would not contain a buy‑option.

Former defender Paul Parker told SpilXperten that Obi’s impressive youth numbers need to be tested in senior football, adding, ‘He needs to play senior football, so the club has to find an opportunity for him.’ He suggested a loan would benefit the youngster greatly.

Utd’s medical team will conduct the examinations today, and the loan will be sealed provided Obi passes. Should any issue arise, the deal could be delayed, but the Dutch deadline on Wednesday leaves little room for postponement. United will then monitor his progress in the Eredivisie for the rest of the season.
