Transfers YOUTH

Man Utd face under‑50 % odds of keeping 15‑year‑old JJ Gabriel

Man Utd face under‑50 % odds of keeping 15‑year‑old JJ Gabriel

Less than 50 per cent chance that Manchester United can persuade 15‑year‑old forward JJ Gabriel to stay, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, who rated the United side’s prospects as ‘very open’. Gabriel informed the club three days ago – on Tuesday – that he wishes to leave the Premier League giants.

The teenager has formally told Manchester United he wants to depart, citing interest from leading clubs across Europe. Romano said a ‘clear frontrunner’ has emerged in the race to sign him, although United remain determined to retain the forward beyond his contract, which expires next summer.

Contract and retention battle

United’s contract with Gabriel runs until the summer of next year, and the club have signalled they are prepared to negotiate an extension. Retaining a player earmarked as a future world‑football star is a priority for the Premier League side.

Romano assessed United’s odds of reversing the decision at less than 50 per cent. ‘JJ Gabriel and his camp have officially informed Manchester United three days ago that he wants to leave,’ he said on his YouTube channel.

The forward has not trained with the first‑team squad for the past two to three days, adding to an increasingly tense atmosphere. United’s message remains that they are still talking and will try to sort the situation.

European suitors line up

Romano listed several clubs that have contacted the player, including Manchester City, who pursued him a year ago, and Chelsea, which is rumoured to be keen. He also mentioned Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint‑Germain and Bayern Munich as having made calls, and suggested that Spanish clubs should be watched closely.

Gabriel’s case illustrates the growing appetite among Europe’s elite for teenage talent, putting pressure on Premier League clubs to secure their prospects early. United’s struggle to keep the 15‑year‑old highlights the competitive market dynamics that could shape transfer strategies this summer.
