Man United's Lisandro Martinez calls Haaland's goal INJUSTICE

Erling Haaland's strike in the Manchester derby on 13 September 2026 was allowed to stand after a VAR review, sparking what Lisandro Martinez described as an INJUSTICE'. The Norwegian scored the winner in the 60th minute, a decision that left the Manchester United defender fuming and prompted Gary Neville to question the officiating.

The goal had initially been ruled out for offside, but the referee’s VAR check concluded Haaland was onside. Enzo Fernandez, positioned ahead of the defender, attempted to play the ball; however, officials judged he did not touch it, allowing the goal to stand. The incident unfolded on Sep 13, 2026.

Martinez told, “I think [Fernandez] was offside. What I can’t understand is the rules. He was there! I went to mark him because he was in front of me. That’s why Haaland was free at the back.” He added that the incident was “unacceptable” and that United had to “go home with this injustice”.

Neville questions the VAR call

Gary Neville, commentating on the match, said, “I will need the offside explained to me. The officials will be nervous about this goal.” He later insisted the officials “got this wrong” and predicted “we will see an apology from Pro Ref.”

United head coach Michael Carrick also slammed the decision, calling it “staggering” and “a major impact on the game.” The controversy in the MAN derby has raised questions about consistency. He warned that such interpretations could affect the season ahead.

The Premier League Match Centre posted on X that VAR had checked the referee’s call of no goal for offside, determined Haaland was onside and that Fernandez, while in an off‑side position, did not play the ball. The official explanation was later confirmed on the league’s platform.

The decision handed Manchester City a 1‑0 victory, leaving Manchester United without the three points they needed at home. The loss intensifies United’s fight to climb the table as the season progresses.
