Man United face managerial shake‑up as Eddie Howe eyes Old Trafford

Manchester United are prepared to dismiss manager Michael Carrick if the team's poor run of form continues, an exclusive report by transfer insider Indy Kaila posted on 17 September 2026 says. The club’s hierarchy says patience will run out if results do not improve immediately.

Pressure has mounted after an unconvincing start to the campaign and early domestic cup setbacks. The board is actively evaluating its options and stands ready to make a swift change in the dugout should performances not improve. Current manager Michael Carrick remains in charge for now.

How Eddie Howe could fit United's needs

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe is reportedly open to an approach from Manchester United and would listen to a formal invitation to take over at Old Trafford. Howe built a strong reputation at Newcastle, guiding the Magpies from a relegation battle to regular European contention.

During his tenure he helped the club secure domestic silverware and develop a side capable of challenging established Premier League teams. Having stepped down in the summer, Howe is now available for a new challenge, making his credentials an attractive option for United.

Owners unwilling to wait for a turnaround

Club owners are reportedly not prepared to exercise patience if results fail to turn around immediately. The Report, shared by Indy Kaila, shows the hierarchy growing increasingly restless and ready to act should the current form persist.

If results do not improve quickly, Manchester United could be forced to choose between retaining Michael Carrick or appointing an experienced alternative such as Eddie Howe. The coming weeks will determine whether the board enacts a swift managerial change.
