Man City star Cherki spurns Bayern despite early form
Michael Olise's contract, which runs until June 2029, highlights Bayern Munich's commitment to their current attacking core and explains why a move for Rayan Cherki is off the agenda. The long‑term deal leaves little room for a surprise signing, especially as the German champions focus on players already integrated into their system.
Rayan Cherki has been linked with a surprise move to Bayern Munich, but fresh information from Germany suggests there is currently no substance behind those reports. The 23‑year‑old Manchester City attacker has made an eye‑catching start to the new season under Enzo Maresca and quickly become an important part of City’s attacking setup.
Bayern’s recruitment stance
According to Bayern insider Christian Falk, the club are not planning to sign Cherki, either in January or as part of their current recruitment strategy. Falk says he directly asked Bayern board member Max Eberl about the situation and was told there is no plan to pursue the France international.
Current attacking options at Bayern
Falk also reported that Cherki was never on Bayern’s shortlist, with the Bundesliga champions instead pursuing other attacking options during the summer. Michael Olise remains central to their plans and is contracted until June 2029, while Serge Gnabry signed a new deal earlier this year keeping him at the club until 2028.
Cherki’s early‑season numbers underline his rising importance at Manchester City. He has recorded two goals and two assists in the Premier League, including a standout two‑goal display in the 4‑1 win over Crystal Palace, showing he is becoming increasingly vital under Maresca.
While Bayern could eventually need another winger if their squad changes, particularly if Olise’s long‑term future ever becomes uncertain, the club’s current position appears clear: Cherki is not a priority. This leaves Manchester City with a creative, unpredictable attacker who can operate centrally or from wide areas.
For City, that is good news. At 23, Cherki is still developing, and his early‑season production suggests there is plenty more to come. Want more CaughtOffside coverage? More stories are available on the site.
