Man City’s €135m signing fuels Manchester rivalry fire

Elliot Anderson announced his arrival at Manchester City today, declaring “Wij are the king of Manchester” and quoting “Man City is the king of Manchester”. The 23‑year‑old midfielder chose the Citizens over Manchester United, a decision that has set the city’s rivalry alight.

During his presentation Anderson accidentally injured a supporter’s finger, an incident that made headlines as he was introduced as the new Manchester City player.

The transfer fee was reported at roughly €135 million, a sum that Manchester United also pursued but could not match, prompting Anderson to opt for the “king of Manchester”.

Anderson arrives from Nottingham Forest, moving Naar Manchester City as the newest Citizen and adding depth to the midfield.

He is the first signing of the post‑Pep Guardiola era, giving new coach Enzo Maresca a starter for England (Engeland) from the recent World Cup (WK).

After the spectacular consolation final against France (4‑6) Anderson received a bronze plaque in recognition of his performance.

“Man City is the king of Manchester,” Anderson said, adding “I know this is one of the most charged derbies in the world and I am looking forward to it.”

Statistically, since 2002 the blue side of Manchester has collected 26 trophies compared with United’s 24, with the last decade under Guardiola especially fruitful, culminating in a Treble in 2023.

“When City showed interest, I didn’t hesitate; I wanted to make that transfer,” the former Scotland youth international – who later chose to represent England – explained. “As a footballer you want to play at the highest level, and that’s what I’m doing now. I look forward to the coming period.”
