Man City faces criticism, Liam Gallagher defends it like a messiah
While Manchester City’s detractors accuse the club of 114 breaches out of 115 of the Premier League’s financial rules between 2009 and 2018, British singer Liam Gallagher, a fervent admirer of the Sky Blues, took to X to contest them, stating that the criticism is unfounded.
Liam Gallagher’s message
Liam Gallagher, Oasis singer and a great fan of the Sky Blues, expressed his displeasure at the criticism raining down on the club. He has not experienced the many reactions triggered by the club’s condemnation for 114 breaches out of 115 of the Premier League’s financial rules between 2009 and 2018.
On the X platform, the British musician chose to step up, taking aim directly at the rivals of the English club. He said that the criticism aimed at the Etihad residents was unfounded.
In his message, he asserted: “All this hatred directed at Manchester City by the other clubs should be directed at Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool. They are the ones who are corrupt and are trying to prevent other teams from winning trophies, not Manchester City.”
He added: “We are trying to help all of you, we are like Jesus, ready to die on the cross,” emphasizing his unconditional support.
Manchester City’s official challenge
Manchester City Football Club confirmed, on Thursday 1 October 2026 at 7 p.m., that it had lodged a full appeal against the decision issued by the Premier League Commission as part of the disciplinary procedure launched. This decision forms part of the challenge to the financial sanction imposed on the club.
In a statement released the same day, the club said that the decision contained obvious and substantial errors both legally and factually, and that the accusations were unfounded. It asserted that it possessed a complete set of irrefutable evidence and reiterated its respect for the ongoing procedures, while noting that it was limited in its comments as long as the process is not concluded.
