Maldini's son faces licence loss after Milan‑area crash
Former Italy forward Daniel Maldini, now with Cagliari, was arrested after a drink‑driving collision on 13 May at 05:15 in the Via Caracciolo district north of Milan. Tests showed blood‑alcohol levels of 0.91 g/L and 0.89 g/L, leading authorities to revoke his licence.
Details of the crash
Maldini was behind the wheel of a Porsche Carrera 4 and failed to give right of way, striking another vehicle. The impact occurred on Via Caracciolo, a northern suburb of Milan, and prompted an immediate police response.
One occupant received on‑scene treatment while the remaining five, including Maldini, were taken to hospital for examinations. His lawyer confirmed that Maldini has since been discharged and suffered no serious injury.
Alcohol‑breath tests returned positive results: the first reading recorded 0.91 g/L, the second 0.89 g/L, both above Italy’s legal limit of 0.5 g/L. Consequently, his driving licence was withdrawn, and officials await the outcome of a toxicology screen for drugs.
The 25‑year‑old will celebrate his birthday on 11 October. He hails from the famous Milan family – grandson of Cesare Maldini and son of Paolo Maldini – and progressed through AC Milan’s academy before debuting for the senior side. After spells at several Italian clubs, he joined Cagliari this summer as his seventh professional team. This season he started all four Serie A matches, scoring two goals, including the decisive penalty in a 1‑0 win over Atalanta on 12 May, the morning before the crash.
