Maldini's licence suspended after drink‑driving crash in Milan
Daniel Maldini, the 24‑year‑old Cagliari forward, had his driving licence suspended after police confirmed his blood‑alcohol level exceeded the legal limit following a early‑morning car crash in Milan (Milão). The incident involved his Porsche Carrera 4, left six people with minor injuries and saw the player released from hospital the same day.

Police arrived in the northern part of Milan at about 5:15 a.m. on Sunday and found Maldini’s Porsche Carrera 4 had collided with another vehicle. A breath‑alcohol test recorded 0.91 g/l, later confirmed at 0.89 g/l, well above Italy’s 0.5 g/l limit, and six occupants, including the forward, suffered only light injuries.
Legal consequences and club response
The local police source, labelled Os, confirmed that Maldini’s driving licence has been suspended. He will also undergo drug‑testing, with results expected in three to four days. His lawyer, Danilo Buongiorno, declined to comment.
Cagliari issued a statement saying toxicology results were negative and that the player will join the squad for training later today as preparations for upcoming fixtures resume. The club added that Maldini remains a key member of the team despite the incident.
Maldini had scored the winning penalty in Cagliari’s 2‑1 Serie A victory over Atalanta in Bergamo on Saturday night, a match that formed part of the Italian Championship (Campeonato Italiano). He was on Atalanta’s roster when they faced Pisa in the Italian Championship on 24 August 2025. The forward, son of former Italy defender Paolo Maldini, has previously represented Lazio, Atalanta and Milan and has earned six caps for the national side.
Throughout his career, Maldini has appeared for Lazio, Atalanta and Milan before joining Cagliari. His lineage includes his father Paolo Maldini, a former Italy and AC Milan defender.
