Maldini's evening: from penalty hero to drunk driver
Daniel Maldini, son of the legendary Paolo Maldini, started on Saturday evening in the lineup for Cagliari against Atalanta and scored the winning penalty that gave the islanders a 1‑2 victory in Bergamo; later that same evening he was involved in a car accident.
The evening followed a night in which he played a starring role in Serie A; unlike his father Paolo, who was a defender, the young Italian grew up in Milan’s youth system as a forward and became a match‑winner near his birthplace.
Car accident and drunk driving
According to Italian media, Maldini was involved in an accident on Via Caracciolo, where he caused a Volkswagen Golf to collide with a parked Mercedes.
“In his Porsche Carrera 4 he entered Via Caracciolo, without giving right of way to a Volkswagen Golf. That then hit a parked Mercedes,” said the police.
The police took an alcohol test; the two measurements with the breath alcohol tester yielded 0.91 mg/l and 0.89 mg/l, causing Maldini to test positive.
His driver’s licence was confiscated. Six people were involved in the accident, but no one sustained serious injuries.
