Major Liverpool midfielder drives Chelsea chase after Fernandez exit
With the Blues still feeling the loss of Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City, Chelsea have turned their attention to Liverpool’s Argentina midfielder. Former Anfield star Xabi Alonso, now Chelsea manager, and Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola are both linked to a potential move for Alexis Mac Allister, a major Liverpool player the Blues view as a suitable replacement.
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Chelsea are keen on securing Mac Allister. Brown, who has a long history of spotting talent, said the Blues have placed the Argentine on a high priority list.
Brown said: "Alexis Mac Allister is always spoken about very highly at Liverpool and elsewhere. He might not be the type of player who is in the starting XI every week without fail, he can go through poor spells, but he is somebody you’d want in your squad," adding that the midfielder could be a good fit for Chelsea.
Chelsea's midfield void
Having sold Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City in the summer window, the Blues now lack a creative midfielder. Brown added that Mac Allister ticks the boxes with his bite, aggression and Premier League experience, qualities Chelsea require midway through the season.

Mac Allister's Liverpool future
Mac Allister joined Liverpool in the summer of 2023 and is contracted until 2028, giving the Reds a long‑term asset. However, reports suggest that if a new deal is not offered, the player may consider a move.
Journalist Pete O’Rourke wrote for Football Insider that "He’s got two years left on his current contract as well, he says he’s happy Liverpool will continue to give his all between now and then." He added that Mac Allister could become a key man for Andoni Iraola if performances improve.
Brown warned that Mac Allister must maintain high‑level performances to revive contract talks, and that any transfer would depend on Liverpool’s willingness to let him leave. Chelsea’s pursuit therefore hinges on both the midfielder’s form and the Reds’ decision on a new contract.

If the Blues secure the Argentine, he would provide the aggression and experience they lack, while Liverpool would free up resources ahead of the next season. The situation remains fluid as both clubs assess their options.
