Maguire pushes Rashford to stay at Old Trafford as window closes

Harry Maguire has voiced his hope that Marcus Rashford will remain at Manchester United, despite more than 600 days since the England forward last featured competitively for the Red Devils and lingering uncertainty over his future as the summer transfer window draws to a close, while noting former manager Ruben Amorim’s earlier role.

Maguire backs Rashford amid loan saga

Rashford has spent the past season on loan at Aston Villa and then at Barcelona, the Spanish giants who decided not to make his signing permanent. He has now returned to United, but it remains unclear where he will be playing when the transfer window shuts. The England forward has not played competitively for the Red Devils in more than 600 days.

After United’s 4-2 pre‑season defeat by AC Milan, Maguire said, “He’s a huge threat, he’s a huge threat to have in your team. So if he’s going to stay with us, obviously the transfer window is still open, but we hope as players that he stays and he’s a big asset to have.” Rashford came off the bench for the last half‑hour of that match.

Maguire also praised former manager Ruben Amorim, now in charge of the Italian side, stating, “He can improve us. When you see when he comes on, he threatens the back line really well. He could have even scored for us today.” The former United boss received a warm reception from Maguire despite his sacking last season.

United manager Michael Carrick echoed the sentiment, saying, “He’s our player. He’s come back great. He’s just like any other player… He gives us something a little bit different.” Carrick’s comment adds weight to the hope that Rashford stays.

Maguire concluded that there are no hard feelings toward Amorim, adding, “It’s great to see him and all his staff. I’m happy that they’re in another job and another chance to impress and to show everyone what a great manager he is.” He wishes Amorim and his staff a successful season.
