Magdeburg secures Polish striker until 2029 amid rising demand

2029 marks the final year of Mateusz Żukowski’s new contract, as 1. FC Magdeburg announced a extension that secures the Polish forward until then. The deal follows his breakout 2025/26 campaign, during which he scored 17 goals and supplied three assists across 21 Bundesliga matches.

Magdeburg’s announcement confirmed the striker will remain at the club through 2029, locking in his services after a season that saw him deliver 17 goals and three assists in 21 league appearances. The extension reflects the club’s confidence in his attacking contributions.

Żukowski began his senior career as a right‑back, making a single appearance for the Scottish side Rangers before converting to an attacking role. He later featured for Lech Poznań and Śląsk Wrocław, completing his transfer to Magdeburg in September 2025.

Sporting Director Peer Jaekel praised the rapid evolution, stating, “Mateusz has undergone impressive development in recent months and has quickly become a key figure in our team.” He added that after an injury the forward “fought his way back with great determination, demonstrating precisely the qualities we need in attack at Magdeburg: assertiveness, finishing ability, and the willingness to take responsibility.”

Żukowski expressed delight with the new terms, saying, “I’m incredibly happy to continue my journey at Magdeburg.” He highlighted the importance of discussions with management, noting they clarified the club’s future direction and his role within a “fantastic team” with a strong sense of unity.

The striker’s breakout season has attracted interest from clubs across Europe, underscoring his rising profile. Magdeburg’s decision to lock him in until 2029 aims to secure the talent before any potential bids materialise.

In a market where emerging forwards command substantial fees, extending a contract early reflects a strategic move to protect value. The extension also signals Magdeburg’s intent to build around the Pole’s attacking prowess for the coming seasons.
