Lyon's Red Devil Loïs Openda in tears after injury against Lens
Loïs Openda, the Red Devil of Lyon, had to be carried off the pitch in tears after more than an hour of playing against his former club Lens, after a knee kick struck his right leg. The exact extent of the injury has yet to be determined.
Applause and bitter return
Loud applause rang out in Lens's Stade Bollaert for the striker, who enjoyed a top season at Lens three years ago and has now returned with Lyon. However, the return carried a very bitter aftertaste, as the injury occurred early in the match.
Chronology of the incident
After sixty minutes, Openda went down and received a second blow, followed by a knee kick to his right leg. He tried to carry on for a short while, but could not continue and asked for a substitution. At first the club doctors supported him, but later they even carried the Red Devil towards the dressing room.
Fonseca sees Lyon cede to Lens and lose Openda
This season Openda has already scored twice for Lyon and provided one assist. After missing the World Cup, he was called up again for the Red Devils.
"I have found my smile again": Loïs Openda hopes to convince national team coach Mark van Bommel at Lotto Park.
The report was published by Niel Van Essche Sport. The latest update states that the exact damage has yet to be revealed, after which the medical staff will determine when he will be available again for Lyon.
