Lyon's attack revamp hinges on Loïs Openda loan from Juventus
Olympique Lyon faces a shortage of proven goal‑scorers after a season of inconsistent attacking output, prompting the French club to target Belgian striker Loïs Openda to revitalise their forward line. The club hopes the 23‑year‑old can replace the missing firepower, and his €4 million per‑year salary is a key financial figure in the deal.
Transfer journalist Nicolò Schira the move to the Franse topclub is only a matter of time, with Juventus and Lyon nearing an agreement on a loan with an option to buy. Schira says the clubs are close to finalising the terms, and the loan structure is designed to give Lyon immediate access to the player while preserving a future purchase route.
Juventus has indicated it will continue to cover part of Openda's €4 million annual wage to facilitate the transfer. The loan includes a purchase option, and the Italian side is prepared to share the salary burden to make the move possible. This financial arrangement reflects Juventus' willingness to aid the player's departure.
Openda has already reached an agreement on a contract that runs until 2031, structured as an initial loan period followed by a four‑year option. The deal therefore spans one year on loan with a potential four‑year extension, giving both clubs flexibility.
The Belgian attacker arrived at Juventus last year after a successful spell at RB Leipzig, which itself followed a breakout season at RC Lens where he scored 21 league goals in 2022‑23. He then recorded 28 goals in his first season with Leipzig, but never secured a regular starting spot at Juventus, often appearing as a substitute.
Lyon sees the Rode Duivel as the ideal man to strengthen their attack and intends to give him the confidence he enjoyed at Lens. The French side believes Openda can become a focal point in their front line and restore goal‑scoring consistency.

The transfer is expected to be completed early next week, with the loan period commencing immediately and the option to buy to be exercised later. Juventus will pay a portion of the €4 million salary, and final signatures are pending, marking the final step before Openda joins Olympique Lyon.
