Lyon’s €4 million chase for Austrian centre‑back Felix Bacher intensifies
Olympique Lyonnais are in advanced talks with Portuguese club Estoril to bring 25‑year‑old Austrian centre‑back Felix Bacher to France for a €4 million fee, with the player expected to fly to Lyon shortly as part of their summer recruitment drive ahead of the Champions League third‑qualifying round.
Lyon have identified Bacher as a solution to defensive frailties. They are attracted by his height, power and speed, traits that suit the French club’s tactical setup.
The Austrian joined the Primeira Liga from WSG Tirol two years ago. He quickly became one of the league’s leading figures, confirming his rapid adaptation to Portuguese football.
Lienz‑born Bacher started every one of the 35 matches he featured in across all competitions last season. His ever‑present role underscored his importance to Ian Cathro’s Estoril side.
Bacher’s contract runs until 2028. He is expected to fly to France shortly to join Les Gones.
If the deal goes through, Bacher will become Lyon’s sixth summer signing, joining Mads Bidstrup, Julien Duranville, Noham Kamara, Mohamed Ouédraogo and Kaïl Boudache. Lyon are still searching for a first‑choice centre‑forward ahead of their Champions League third‑qualifying round tie.
For Estoril, the transfer would mean the loss of a key defender but also a substantial €4 million fee that could be reinvested, especially given Bacher’s long‑term contract. The fee reflects the value of his long‑term contract.
