Lukaku set to leave Napoli for Fenerbahce after contract agreement
Romelu Lukaku is set to leave SSC Napoli this summer after agreeing in principle to join Fenerbahce Istanbul. Multiple transfer insiders confirm the Belgian international has reached a basic agreement over a contract with the Turkish club.
Napoli are keen to remove Lukaku from their wage bill before the close of the summer transfer window and have been in advanced talks with Fenerbahce. The Turkish side last tabled an offer of around six million euros, while the Italian champions continue to demand ten million euros for the 33-year-old striker.
According to Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, negotiations between Fenerbahce and Napoli are currently proceeding at pace. The reports indicate the two clubs remain divided over the transfer fee, with Napoli holding firm on their valuation.
Transfer insider Gianluca Di Marzio also reports a narrowing of positions between the clubs. Napoli is said to have recently submitted a fresh counter-proposal, with a full agreement potentially possible within the next 24 to 48 hours.
Lukaku himself has already given his personal approval for the move. Reports suggest a ready-to-sign two-year contract is available at Fenerbahce, and the striker’s legal team has reportedly given the green light for the transfer to proceed.
Yet the deal remains unresolved. While insider Sacha Tavolieri states that no final agreement has been reached on the transfer fee or certain contract terms, other sources believe the move is close to completion.
Napoli’s urgency to finalise Lukaku’s departure stems from their desire to clear his wages from the club’s budget before the end of the transfer window. Fenerbahce, meanwhile, is working to improve its offer to meet Napoli’s demands.
Should the clubs agree on the fee, the transfer is expected to be announced without delay. For Lukaku, the move would mark the next chapter in a career that has already included spells at Chelsea, Inter Milan, AS Roma and Napoli, and would take him to the Turkish Süper Lig.
