Lukaku hopes for a start at Fenerbahçe against favourite Aston Villa

Romelu Lukaku can appear on the kickoff for Fenerbahçe in the Champions League against Aston Villa on Wednesday, even though he only got ten minutes in the previous match. Coach Ismail Kartal would like to give him more confidence, and the Belgian striker sees a chance against a favored opponent.

In the league match against Rizespor, Lukaku received only ten minutes of playing time, after he had featured three times for Belgium during the international break. The limited time has sparked his desire for a bigger role. He hopes the coach will grant him more minutes in the European clash.

Coach Ismail Kartal has indicated that Lukaku can gain more confidence in the Champions League. A larger role is already being discussed by the club, and a starting place is among the possibilities. For the striker this means a chance to prove himself on a big stage.

Impressive statistics against Aston Villa

The 33‑year‑old forward has already scored against 107 different teams in his professional club career. Against Aston Villa he has played eleven official duels, in which he scored nine goals and provided two assists. That amounts to eleven direct contributions to a goal, an exceptional return against the English club.

The results of those eleven meetings are also striking: Lukaku's team lost only once, drew twice and recorded eight victories. These statistics underline why Villa remains a special opponent for him.

Motivation and recent form

Lukaku had three appearances for Belgium during the international break, after which he was placed on the bench for the match against Rizespor. The short ten‑minute playing time has reinforced his desire to be more involved in the game. He sees the clash with Villa as an ideal opportunity to showcase his nose for goals again.

For the Champions League duel at Villa Park a larger role for the striker is expected, and a starting place is even considered realistic. If he can repeat his previous productivity against the English club, he can immediately make a significant impact on the outcome of the match.
