Long suffering ends: Kompany gives hope for Gnabry's comeback
After a long period of suffering since his adductor injury in April, Serge Gnabry could be back in the FC Bayern squad for the Champions League match against Bodø/Glimt on Thursday evening, as Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said at the press conference, sparking hope for a comeback.
The attacking player injured his adductors in April 2026 and has been sidelined since. The injury caused him to miss both the World Cup with Germany and the start of the season with FC Bayern.
Vincent Kompany stated at the press conference that a deployment of Gnabry on Thursday evening would be fundamentally possible. However, the Bayern coach emphasized that the club must first be certain and wants to wait for the player's condition.
Bayern coach emphasizes caution
Kompany made it clear that the decision depends on the attacking player's physical condition. He pointed out that the adductor injury requires careful monitoring before Gnabry can be cleared to play again.
Gnabry's record with the record champions
Serge Gnabry has been under contract with FC Bayern since 2018 and has so far made 322 appearances for the club. After his long break, he could now be included in the record champion's squad again for the first time.
A definitive return has not yet been confirmed, but Kompany indicated that Gnabry could at least be an option for the squad again. According to his statement, the decisive factor is how the player feels before the match.
The Champions League match against Bodø/Glimt takes place on Thursday, 10 September 2026. A possible deployment on Thursday evening would mark Gnabry's first return to competitive action.
If Gnabry returns to the field, it could lay the foundation for further appearances in the ongoing competition and expand FC Bayern's attacking options.
