Loan quota forces Richarlison's Tottenham exit to go permanent
Richarlison has confirmed he wants OUT of Tottenham, and his chances of leaving the north London club have been further dented after a loan quota blocked a move to Brazil, leaving only a permanent transfer as the realistic option with just a year left on his deal.
De Zerbi’s squad decisions
Roberto De Zerbi arrived as head coach while the Brazilian frontman was already omitted from the Premier League squad following the close of the summer transfer window. The exclusion made it clear that Richarlison no longer has a future at Tottenham Hotspur. De Zerbi’s stance has deepened the rift between player and manager.
Failed loan targets
Tottenham had hoped to send Richarlison back to Everton late in the window, and a separate deal for Iliman Ndiaye to join north London was also being negotiated. Both moves collapsed when the Toffees winger completed a transfer to Manchester City, leaving the striker frustrated on the bench.
A proposed switch to Turkish side Trabzonspor also fell through, and a loan to Brazil’s Vasco da Gama could not be finalised. The Brazilian window closes on 11 September, while the Portuguese window remains open until 15 September and the Saudi Pro League until 12 October, limiting further options.
Guardiola promises to be in the stands against PSG amid Manchester City chaos
Spurs have already reached FIFA’s permitted limit of six players loaned to clubs outside England. The six players currently out on loan are Pape Matar Sarr (Juventus), Guglielmo Vicario (Juventus), Radu Dragusin (Fiorentina), Souza (Porto), Kota Takai (Sint‑Truiden) and Yang Min‑hyeok (KVC Westerlo). Because of this cap, a loan move for Richarlison to his homeland is now impossible.
At 29 years old, Richarlison has just a year remaining on his contract, meaning a permanent transfer is the only viable route. Tottenham had previously agreed a £35 million fee with Everton, but the price could now drop as buying clubs sense the urgency.
Tottenham’s transfer chiefs have taken a gamble, especially with Dominic Solanke’s injury history and the recent arrival of Omar Marmoush on loan from Manchester City. The clear falling out between De Zerbi and Richarlison leaves the club with little choice but to sell.
TEAMtalk both Tottenham and Chelsea are leading Premier League interest in the younger brother of PSG star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, adding another subplot to the club’s busy transfer market activity.
