Loan deal opens as Juventus sign Vicario after Dibu Martínez collapse

Guglielmo Vicario, the 29‑year‑old Italian goalkeeper, is set to become Juventus’s new No 1 on a loan deal that includes an optional €10.5 million purchase clause, after the club’s pursuit of Argentine international Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martínez collapsed due to Aston Villa’s high financial demands.

Vicario substituted Antonín Kinsky against Atletico Madrid (Atleti) in the 17th minute, taking over the starting role for that match.

Failed Dibu Martínez deal

El Italian arrives after weeks of negotiations between Juventus and Aston Villa, a process that ultimately fell apart when the Birmingham side insisted on higher economic terms.

The move makes him the new goalkeeper of the ‘Vecchia Signora’, as reported by Tuttosport.

Elies Aparicio BRESCÓ noted the development ahead of official confirmation.

Roberto de Zerbi’s appointment as Aston Villa’s manager reduced Vicario’s chances, with the Czech keeper Kinsky retaining the first‑choice spot.

The Czech keeper Kinsk stayed in goal, further limiting Vicario’s playing time.

Goalkeeper reshuffle at Juventus

Veteran Martin Dúbravka joined Tottenham in the summer of 2023 for €20 million, succeeding Hugo Lloris as the club’s primary goalkeeper.

Since his arrival he has featured in 117 matches, with his performances described as declining over time.

These circumstances contributed to the perception that Vicario’s departure was inevitable.

Michele Di Gregorio has been offered on loan to several European clubs, including Olympique de Marseille, which is searching for a replacement after Gerónimo Rulli moved to Manchester City.

The future of Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martínez remains unresolved, while Aston Villa appears to have moved ahead of PSG for Japanese prospect Zion Suzuki, raising questions about Martínez’s role.

Martínez also faces doubts over his physical condition after sustaining a finger fracture at the last World Cup.
