Loan arrival in Bremen puts Füllkrug on path back to Werder

Ankunft in Bremen of 33‑year‑old striker Niclas Füllkrug was confirmed on 18 August 2026, with the German forward set to join Werder on loan from English Klub West Ham United after a medical check scheduled for today, marking a potential Rückkehr to the club where he began.

Bundesliga top‑scorer move to Dortmund

In 2023 Füllkrug earned the title Bundesliga‑Torschützenkönig and secured a transfer to Borussia Dortmund. The Ablösesumme was estimated at 15 Millionen Euro. His season at the BVB lasted a Jahr before he sought a new challenge.

A year later, in Richtung West, the striker left the BVB for English Klub West Ham United. The move marked his first foray into the Premier League. Medienberichte noted the transfer as a significant step for the German international.

During the winter pause, Füllkrug was loaned to AC Milan. In 20 Einsätzen for the Italian side he found the net only once. The limited output sparked fresh speculation about his future.

Rumours of a Rückkehr to Werder have circulated for months, and now the circumstances appear to align for a permanent comeback. The loan deal from West Ham United to Bremen would bring the forward back to the club where his career began.

Today a Medizincheck is scheduled to finalise the agreement. Sky was the first outlet to break the story, and subsequent Medienberichte have confirmed the details. The Ankunft in Bremen is set to happen imminently, pending the health assessment.
