Liverpool triumph at Anfield, Barcola injured, Arsenal beat Naples

On Wednesday, Liverpool beat Atlético de Madrid 2-1 in the Champions League, while Arsenal won their match against Naples 1-0 thanks to a goal from Martin Ødegaard; Bradley Barcola left the field limping shortly after the final whistle.

A tentative start to the season

The Reds began the campaign with two 2-2 draws, first at Newcastle on August 23, then against Nottingham Forest on the 29th, before securing a 2-0 win at Ipswich the previous week. These results were attributed to a lack of control in midfield, according to observers.

Injuries that worry Liverpool

Bradley Barcola, starting for the first time with his new club, missed two clear chances at the 15th and 49th minutes before withdrawing with a left calf injury at the 60th. Milos Kerkez also left the field with a muscle injury, leaving coach Andoni Iraola uncertain about future line‑ups.

Arsenal, for their part, dominated Naples but took time to convert their advantage, with Martin Ødegaard scoring in the 75th minute after a well‑executed team move. The Londoners saw Bukayo Saka, Piero Hincapié and Mikel Merino hit the post or miss the mark, but they held onto their lead until the end.

The Gunners will face Lille on October 13 for the second matchday of the group stage, while Naples travel the same day to Villarreal, extending their European commitments.

Meanwhile, Sporting CP turned the tide against Galatasaray by winning 3-1, adding another victory for the European clubs featured in today's round‑ups.
