Liverpool's £123m Barcola signing leaves Bayern feeling spurned

Bradley Barcola completed a £123m transfer to Liverpool this summer, reported by Comments Sport senior sports journalist Bruna Reis on 10 Sep 2026 with two images (View 2 Images, Image: Getty Images). Bayern Munich director of sport Max Eberl said Liverpool blew Bayern out of the race, but he stressed Luis Diaz still draws fans to the stadium.

Bayern's missed chase

Bayern Munich, along with Arsenal and several other clubs, had been linked with the France international before he completed his move from Paris Saint‑Germain. Eberl explained that the £123m price tag ultimately put the Bundesliga giants out of contention.

Liverpool had previously sold Colombian midfielder Luis Diaz to the club for £65.5m last summer. Diaz, who scored 17 goals in all competitions during an outstanding season for the former Premier League champions, is described by Eberl as the player who truly draws fans to the stadium.

Barcola's debut and injury

Barcola made his first Liverpool start in the Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid, a match the Reds won 2‑1 after a comeback. In the second half he clutched his calf and was replaced by Victor Munoz. The report tags the article with Reds US ON Get.

Andoni Iraola later told reporters the problem was merely cramps and that the club had rushed Barcola, who had not featured in pre‑season. The winger had only appeared as a substitute at Ipswich Town, his first minutes since France’s 6‑4 loss to England in the World Cup third‑place play‑off.

The £123m signing adds a high‑profile winger to Liverpool’s squad, but his early injury worries may limit his impact. Bayern Munich will have to look elsewhere after the price barrier forced them to abandon their pursuit, while Luis Diaz remains central to the Reds’ commercial appeal.
