Liverpool push to lock up Rio Ngumoha as Alexis Mac Allister warns of anger
Liverpool have kept their unbeaten run intact after a 3‑1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup, a win that also saw Rio Ngumoha’s contract future become a talking point as Alexis Mac Allister admitted he feels anger when the youngsters under‑perform in training.
Cup victory secures fourth‑round spot
Tuesday's victory at Anfield secured the Reds' place in the fourth round, thanks to a first‑half strike from Alexis Mac Allister, a second‑half finish by Cody Gakpo and a late clincher from Dominik Szoboszlai.
Andoni Iraola handed debut minutes to a trio of first‑team novices – 19‑year‑old Trey Nyoni, 22‑year‑old James McConnell and 20‑year‑old Lewis Koumas – allowing the academy graduates invaluable experience as Liverpool pressed on.
Liverpool remain unbeaten across all competitions under Iraola, with a weekend visit to his former club Bournemouth looming on the horizon.

Rio Ngumoha’s long‑term future under review
The club have signalled they intend to tie down Rio Ngumoha to a new long‑term deal, rejecting any plan to sell the 18‑year‑old winger. His current contract runs until 2028, but after celebrating his 18th birthday last month he can now sign a senior agreement. Bayern Munich and Arsenal have both been linked with interest.
Mac Allister explained his frustration, saying: “It was really important for the young players. They show every single day in training that they want to be here. I focus quite a lot on them and I get angry. It’s part of me wanting them to succeed.”
The Argentine also assisted Gakpo’s goal and shared midfield duties with Nyoni and McConnell, while Lewis Koumas earned man of the match honours for his attacking contributions.
