Liverpool offers almost €45m for Gilberto Mora – BVB stays in race

The English top club Liverpool is said to be preparing an offer of almost €45 million for the 17‑year‑old Mexican attacking gem Gilberto Mora, while Borussia Dortmund (BVB) continues to be mentioned as a possible buyer. The exceptional talent has already attracted the interest of almost all top clubs in Europe.

Liverpool makes record offer

Mexican sports journalist David Faitelson reported that Liverpool is preparing a record offer of just under €45 million for Gilberto Mora. The information comes from the well‑known player agent Rafaela Pimenta, who also represents Erling Haaland alongside Mora. Pimenta already emphasized in October last year that for €15 million one would not even get a leg of Gilberto, pointing to the high market value of the 17‑year‑old.

The offer is described as extremely costly because Mora is contracted to Club Tijuana until 2029 and, according to Pimenta, is by no means a bargain. The report remains unverified, as neither Liverpool nor the player himself have confirmed the sum.

Jimenez recommends BVB as development option

Raul Jimenez, national‑team colleague of Mora, sees the Bundesliga and especially Borussia Dortmund as an ideal environment for the young talent's development. In an interview with Claro Sports he said: “He has the stuff to play everywhere, but it can also be a step‑by‑step process, piece by piece. Where would I like to see him? Maybe in Germany, at Borussia Dortmund. They have their own style of play.”

Jimenez called the BVB a “good option” for the 17‑year‑old striker, who already made four appearances at the last World Cup.

Other top clubs from Europe show interest

In addition to Liverpool and Dortmund, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are said to be vying intensely for the services of Gilberto Mora. The Spanish rivals could benefit, according to the Spanish daily AS, from the close contacts of Pimenta. The former TV channel TUDN also reported at the end of July that the BVB has intensified its courting of the young player and has made contact with Mora's entourage.

Lothar Matthäus, expert at Sky, confirmed that Borussia Dortmund has already “stretched out its feelers a bit”. The 17‑year‑old Mexican has played four matches at the World Cup and is already on the scouting lists of many European clubs.

The head of the youth academy of Club Tijuana, Ignacio Ruvalcaba, explained that Mora dreams of playing for Real Madrid and that his family is very focused. He emphasized that Mora is firmly grounded with both feet, even though he admires the Spanish top‑club idol.

The contract of Mora runs until 2029, but a transfer could be completed at the latest in the summer of 2026, when he turns 18 on 14 October. A winter move to Europe is also possible. In his first seven league games in Mexico he scored five goals and provided one assist, while in his 13th international he scored the first goal for Mexico in a 1‑1 draw against Colombia.

The record‑potential offer from Liverpool increases the pressure on Borussia Dortmund, which has already made costly signings such as Giannis Konstantelias and Konstantinos Karetsas. Despite the high sum, the BVB remains in the race, because the sporting perspective for the young talent striker still appears attractive.
