Liverpool lose late lead for first time, Opta says

FC Liverpool wrote history when the Reds lost 2-3 to Fenerbahce in Istanbul. The match took place at the Chobani Stadium on 4 November 2026.
According to data provider Opta, it was the first time Liverpool took the lead late in a European competition match and still lost the game. The lead came only in the 69th minute, which makes the late lead especially noteworthy.
The substituted Alexander Isak headed in the 69th minute for a 2-1 lead for the Englishmen. Isak, who was only brought on in the second half, thus put the Reds into the lead.
Just four minutes later Archie Brown equalised for Fener in the 73rd minute, before Vedat Muriqi headed the 3-2 winning goal in the second half. Muriqi's goal confirmed the weakness of the Reds' defence.
With this, Liverpool have already conceded ten goals in four Champions League games. In addition, the team had to concede three goals in three consecutive games for the first time (6-3 against LASK, 4-3 against Villarreal, 2-3 against Fenerbahce).
Nyoni volley puts Liverpool ahead in Istanbul
Trey Nyoni gave the Reds the lead in the 25th minute, his first goal in a European competition and also the youngest goal in the club's history. The 19-year-old academy product scored the goal in his 32nd appearance for the team.
Mason Greenwood equalised for Fenerbahce in the 29th minute, about half an hour after the opening goal. This made it 2-2 after 90 minutes, before Isak struck again.
With nine points Liverpool sit in fifth place, while Fenerbahce sit in 19th place with five points after the win. The victory was Fenerbahce's first win of this Champions League season.
