Liverpool launch record £38m bid for Mexican prodigy

Liverpool have reportedly tabled a record‑breaking offer of more than £38 million for 17‑year‑old Mexican attacking midfielder Gilberto Mora, a move that could make him Liga MX’s biggest export ever. The Reds return from an extended international break eager to build on back‑to‑back wins and face Manchester City at home on Sunday.

Why Liverpool need a new creative spark

Andoni Iraola’s side sit sixth after an underwhelming start, and the club’s winter‑window ambitions have already been flagged as a priority. With veteran Wataru Endo set to leave when his contract expires and Alexis Mac Allister entering the final 18 months of his deal, Liverpool are looking to refresh the midfield ahead of next season.

Record bid for Gilberto Mora

According to TUDN, the offer – described as ‘in excess of £38 million’ – would break the previous record for a Liga MX export. Mora, who debuted for Tijuana in 2024, became the youngest Mexican ever to play at a World Cup when he featured for El Tri this summer and is due to turn 18 next week.

The 17‑year‑old impressed in a 1‑1 friendly draw against Colombia last month, scoring once before being rested for Mexico’s other friendlies. National team boss Rafael Marquez reportedly kept him out of those matches to protect the transfer interest.

Other targets and obstacles

Liverpool are also linked with Fiorentina midfielder Cher Ndour, with an offer around £30 million mentioned, but will have to outbid Juventus and Crystal Palace. Ndour, 22, is described as ‘unsellable’ this summer, a label that could be tested if Liverpool’s pursuit intensifies.

Beyond the midfield, the club must also consider the future of veteran players and the competition from other European giants such as Arsenal, Barcelona and Real Madrid, all of whom have been linked with Mora.

Fans can follow the latest developments on the official Liverpool Facebook page and the club’s WhatsApp community, where further updates and exclusive offers are shared.
