Liverpool eye transfer as Szoboszlai warns against excuses
Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool face a clear need on the left flank after Andy Robertson’s departure, and Dominik Szoboszlai has made it plain that the Reds cannot afford further delays. The Hungarian midfielder told the squad that “we don’t have three years to renew everybody and start again”, urging immediate action on a transfer to solve the problem position.
Early season assessment
It has been a satisfactory, if unspectacular, start for the Reds, who sit sixth in the table after five games, albeit six points off early leaders Manchester City. Liverpool’s hard‑fought win at Bournemouth suggested that Iraola has solid foundations on which to build as he looks to take the fight to City and champions Arsenal.
Transfer focus on left‑back
The left‑back spot remains a headache for Liverpool, with Milos Kerkez and Kostas Tsimikas both failing to convince fully. Reports indicate that Crystal Palace’s highly‑rated left‑back Tyrick Mitchell, out of contract next summer, is on Liverpool’s radar as a potential January addition.
Szoboszlai’s comments came in a Sport article written by Mark Whiley, a Sports Writer, at 05:00 on 24 Sep 2026. The piece included three Images and a View link to further Reds news, and it was posted on OUR Liverpool Facebook page.
Liverpool defender Milos Kerkez branded an enemy of Ukraine amid Nations League clash
Andoni Iraola will be reviewing Liverpool’s start to the season as he enters his first international break as Liverpool boss. He will also be hoping the 18 first‑team players called up for international duty return unscathed.
The club’s recent activity saw four new players arrive over the summer, yet the left side of defence is still listed as a top priority. If a deal for Mitchell materialises, Liverpool could avoid losing him for nothing at the end of the season.
With the season still young, the Reds must decide quickly whether to act on the transfer target highlighted by Szoboszlai, or risk falling further behind Manchester City and Arsenal.
