Liverpool eye permanent future after €55m Araujo option big surprise
A €55 million buy‑option sits on Ronald Araujo’s season‑long loan from Barcelona, a clause that Fabrizio Romano confirmed after initially misstating its absence. The Uruguay international has impressed at Anfield, prompting Liverpool to label the deal a ‘big surprise’ and hint at a possible permanent switch.
The loan arrived in the summer and, appeared out of nowhere. Since joining Liverpool, the Uruguay defender has performed strongly at Anfield, earning praise for his defensive solidity.
Romano corrects buy‑option error
Romano later admitted his earlier claim that the loan lacked a purchase clause was wrong. He clarified that Liverpool hold a €55 million option to sign Araujo permanently.
“Congratulations to Liverpool because they signed a fantastic player with Ronald Araujo,” Romano said, adding the defender was an underrated surprise. He described Araujo as a versatile right‑back, centre‑back, captain and leader.
The €55 million clause gives Liverpool a clear pathway to secure Araujo if they choose. Romano noted that the club now knows the exact condition for a permanent deal.
Liverpool’s defence has been a focus after the departure of Ibrahima Konate and the ageing of Virgil van Dijk. Araujo and fellow defender Jeremy Jacquet provide options, but the club may still seek reinforcements in upcoming windows.
CaughtOffside News promises further updates on the Araujo situation and other transfer developments. More coverage will follow as the summer window draws to a close.
