Liverpool eye huge Minteh move as right‑flank gap widens

Comments Sport Chris Burns, Senior Sports Writer, reported on 03 Sep 2026 that Liverpool are desperate for a right‑flank replacement after Mo Salah, and a huge Minteh move is being discussed ahead of their Premier League clash with Ipswich Town on Friday evening. The club’s two bids, the highest at £60m, were rejected, leaving the gap unfilled.

Right‑flank vacancy after Salah

The arrival of Bradley Barcola from PSG for a staggering £123million generated excitement, yet the club still lacks a clear successor to Mo Salah on the right. Andoni Iraola’s midfield problems remain unresolved, and the Anfield side’s summer was punctuated with near misses.

Failed Minteh bids and Brighton hint

Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh was the subject of two failed bids, the highest being £60m, and the Seagulls may have dropped a hint that a winter or next‑summer move could materialise after they secured Femi Azeez from Millwall. Fabian Hurzeler’s side completed Azeez’s £? transfer in the early hours of Wednesday, adding a 25‑year‑old right‑sided winger to their ranks.

Midfield concerns and other targets

Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr was linked with Liverpool but no move materialised, while the club’s focus on midfield remains on Andoni Iraola’s unresolved issues. The excitement surrounding Barcola’s £123million fee was somewhat offset by glaring squad gaps that were overlooked.

Camara link as possible alternative

Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, whose £47.1million move to Chelsea collapsed on deadline day, has been told to ‘wait’ for Liverpool, who see him as a potential replacement for Alexis Mac Allister. Xabi Alonso’s side expressed interest in Camara for next summer, after Enzo Fernandez’s departure to Manchester City.

Future steps could see a Minteh deal resurrected in January or even in the summer of 2027, but Brighton’s double capture of Azeez and 19‑year‑old Zadok Johanna suggests the Seagulls are preparing for Minteh’s possible exit. Liverpool must navigate financial constraints and competition for right‑wing talent before any concrete agreement is reached.
