Liverpool Arne Slot eyes Barcola to revive Anfield attack

Liverpool manager Arne Slot is targeting French winger Bradley Barcola, with a fee of about £127 million, to strengthen the Anfield attack after a fifth‑place finish in the Premier League. The club’s most pressing need is a proven goal‑scorer to replace Mohamed Salah, whose 22 goal contributions highlighted the void.

The 2025‑26 campaign left Liverpool fifth in the Premier League, prompting a summer overhaul of the squad. The disappointing league position has intensified scrutiny of the club’s direction.

Slot’s tactical overhaul failed to exploit the squad’s strengths, leading to calls for fresh attacking options at Anfield. Critics argue that the current system does not maximise the talent on the roster.

Liverpool’s most urgent requirement is a proven goal‑scorer to replace Mohamed Salah, whose 22 goal contributions underscored the attacking shortfall. Salah remains the main outlet but the club seeks an immediate replacement.

Representatives of Bradley Barcola, the 57‑goal sensation, have approached Liverpool about a possible transfer worth roughly £127 million. Barcola’s contract with Paris Saint‑Germain expires in two years, and he has halted renewal talks, positioning him for a move this summer.

Paris Saint‑Germain have set a price tag of €150 million (£127.5 million) for the French attacker. The club’s demand reflects their desire to comply with financial regulations while offloading a valuable player.

Barcola has already lifted the Champions League twice and amassed 57 career goals across all competitions. Primarily a left‑winger, his versatility allows him to operate anywhere across the front line, a trait valued by PSG manager Luis Enrique.

Mohamed Salah remains Liverpool’s main attacking outlet, delivering 22 goal contributions in the 2025‑26 season despite a slight dip in form. He is still regarded as one of the Premier League’s best right‑wingers, highlighting the difficulty of finding an immediate replacement.

Following the collapse of Yan Diomande’s move, Liverpool were linked with Said El Mala, Matias Fernandez‑Pardo and Yankuba Minteh, though none match Diomande’s quality. Among the shortlist, Barcola stands out as the most accomplished option.

Unlike some Premier League rivals, Liverpool cannot rely on an unlimited budget and must allocate funds judiciously. If Liverpool can meet the price, Barcola would instantly bolster their attacking firepower and revive hopes of competing for silverware, but the size of the fee leaves the final agreement uncertain.
