Lincoln City break record to secure Romanian defender Coubis
Championship newcomers Lincoln City have signed Romania international defender Andrei Coubis from Universitatea Cluj on a five‑year deal, with an undisclosed fee that BBC Radio Lincolnshire says breaks the club’s transfer record, pending a work permit and international clearance for the 22‑year‑old, as shown in Getty Images].
Sporting director Jez George said the defender has elite physical attributes, plays with real aggression, shows composure in possession, fits the club’s profile perfectly and possesses a high ceiling.
Coubis was born in Italy to Romanian parents, making him eligible for the Romanian national team. He progressed through AC Milan’s youth system before joining Universitatea Cluj, where he earned his first senior caps.
He made his senior debut for Romania earlier this year, adding an international cap to his résumé.
The five‑year deal signals a long‑term commitment from both player and club. For Lincoln City, the record fee underlines the ambition to strengthen the squad ahead of their debut season in the Championship.
The move offers Coubis a step up to England’s second tier, while the required work permit and clearance must be completed before he can feature for the Imps.
