Tanenbaum rules out immediate AS Saint-Etienne overhaul

🇫🇷

Canadian owner Larry Tanenbaum confirmed AS Saint-Etienne’s long-term commitment on June 4, 2026, while dismissing immediate internal restructuring demanded by supporters following the club’s failure to return to Ligue 1. Tanenbaum stated the club’s focus remains on stability and gradual progress.

The supporters’ calls for change followed AS Saint-Etienne’s sixth-place finish in Ligue 2, missing out on promotion by five points. Club president Roland Romeyer echoed Tanenbaum’s stance, emphasizing continuity in leadership and strategy.

Tanenbaum, who acquired the club in December 2022, reiterated his confidence in the current squad and technical staff. Romeyer added that structural adjustments would only follow a thorough evaluation, not under pressure from fan protests.

Rising costs in Ligue 2 and financial constraints were cited as key challenges for immediate restructuring. Tanenbaum stressed patience, asserting that sustainable growth requires time and careful planning.

AS Saint-Etienne will enter the 2026-27 Ligue 2 season with the same management team and unchanged objectives: promotion to Ligue 1. The club’s next transfer window decisions will be guided by long-term planning rather than short-term fixes.
