Ligue 1 sees RC Lens confirm massive shake‑up after win
Racing Club de Lens opened the Ligue 1 season with a 2-1 victory over Olympique Lyonnais on Saturday, the sixth matchday, and used the result to confirm a huge internal shake‑up under new manager Yannick Cahuzac.
New coach steadies the dressing room
Players who remained on holiday during the international break were able to train with Cahuzac, who replaced Dino Toppmöller after the latter was dismissed in mid‑September. The change was described by journalist Giovanni Castaldi on the Téléfoot After programme as a "massive shock" that needed to be digested by the squad.
Castaldi said the departure of Toppmöller sparked extensive discussion both inside and outside the club, but stressed that the issue was not tactical – it was a dressing‑room problem. He added that the victory was as much about mental strength as it was about the scoreline, noting the players felt a great sense of relief.
Result lifts Lens in the table
The win propelled the Sang et Or to ninth place in the provisional league table. After six rounds, Lens have recorded two wins, one draw and three defeats. Castaldi concluded that when the players send a clear message and the board backs it, the immediate validation on the pitch benefits the whole club.
