Lewandowski wins, Müller loses first MLS duel vs former Bayern teammates
While Thomas Müller is playing his first MLS match for the Whitecaps in Vancouver, Robert Lewandowski, who plays for Chicago Fire, is already celebrating his team’s victory – even though both teams did not score a goal in their direct encounter.
First Encounter Without a Goal
The two former Bayern professionals, who played side by side for years, met for the first time in the North American league. In the first half, Müller was substituted, and Lewandowski only came on in the final quarter hour.
Although Müller had no goal involvement, Lewandowski set up the 3‑1 through Maren Haile‑Selassie in the 88th minute. The Polish striker said he was satisfied despite the goalless statistic.
The Vancouver Whitecaps remain league leaders of the Western Conference after their seventh season defeat. They have 50 points from 27 games and sit three points ahead of St. Louis City, even though there are still seven matchdays left until the end of the regular season.
Robert Lewandowski, who has been known as the 2014 World Cup champion since his time at Bayern Munich, has thus won his first MLS match for Chicago Fire. Thomas Müller, on the other hand, still has to improve his new team’s result.
