Leverkusen's new signing Eichhorn sidelined by metabolic disorder

Stand: 01.08.2026 • 16:29 Uhr – Bundesligist Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed that their recent Neuzugang Kennet Eichhorn will be unavailable for an indefinite period because of a Krankheit, meaning Leverkusens Eichhorn is ruled out for now. The club announced the news today.

During a medical Untersuchung a treatable Stoffwechselstörung was identified, the club said, noting that the Stoffwechselerkrankung followed a period of high Belastung and significant Gewichtsverlust after a Magen-Darm-Erkrankung.

Der Sportgeschäftsführer Simon Rolfes said, “Kennet stands before a hopefully very long career at the highest level. We will support him in the best possible way, ensuring the right measures for his recovery are taken and that he receives the necessary time and Ruhe for his Behandlung without pressure.”

Die Behandlung will commence in a specialised facility, with the Leverkusener medical team overseeing the process. No timeframe for his return has been disclosed.

The Wechsel took place in the summer, with Eichhorn moving from Hertha BSC for a reported nine million euros. The former Profi had featured in 17 league matches for the Hertha side last season.

He also became the youngest scorer in the history of the 2. Bundesliga during his time with Hertha.

Fu clubs such as Manchester City, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig were reported to have shown interest in the promising youngster before his move to Leverkusen.
