Levante and Sevilla ultras clash with chairs and fireworks

In the early hours of this Monday, the ultras of Levante and Sevilla raised plastic chairs and fireworks in the bars surrounding the Ciutat de València, just hours before the close of LaLiga matchday 8 between the two teams. Sevilla's last visit to the city of Valencia, in April, ended with a 2‑0 win by Iván Romero.

Chairs and fireworks in the street

According to Deportivo, a few dozen radicals from both teams threw chairs and pyrotechnic material this Monday morning in the bars surrounding the Ciutat de València. The clashes erupted hours before the Levante‑Sevilla match and spread from the terraces near the Granota stadium to the surrounding streets. The groups fought with bar chairs and bats, exchanging fireworks to intimidate each other.

The circulated images show several young people dressed in dark clothing, some with sunglasses and others with their faces covered, raising red plastic chairs above their heads in the middle of the road, with a pole held high among them. The atmosphere of the fight caused people to run and left minor damage in the streets near the stadium. It has not been confirmed whether there were arrests or injuries, and the police intervention has not been detailed.

In sporting terms, Levante and Sevilla do not appear as direct rivals in the table, so the match was presented as a simple matchday finale with three points at stake. In April, the situation was different: the duel was decisive for survival, with the Granota needing to win to cut five points from the Andalusians, which it achieved. Therefore, the encounter lacked any additional pressure beyond the three points at stake.

Sporting and legal repercussions

Six months later, the tension has arisen outside the stadium, without a season rivalry between the two clubs. The April duel had been decisive for survival, with Levante reducing the gap to five points.

In Luis García Plaza's squad, the list for the Ciutat de València includes Rubén Vargas's return to the squad, two weeks after the coach gave him a warning. For his part, Stassin remains sidelined due to an adductor problem.

The match will be played this Monday with the events still pending assessment, and it is still unknown whether the State Commission against Violence in Sport will open a case against either group. What happened in the street does not stem from a season sporting rivalry.
