Simons' injury and his switch to Harvard, a life on hold
Xavi Simons, the 23-year-old midfielder of Tottenham, suffered a serious knee injury in the match against Wolves in April, while at the same time he has announced that he will start studies in the Crossover Into Business program of Harvard Business School.
The damage forced him to miss the season with Tottenham and, in his own words, he left in tears because he knew he would miss the World Cup. The injury was described as “serious” and occurred during the match against Wolves.
Doctors estimate that recovery will take several months; Simons is not expected to play again before February 2027. In the meantime, the player faces a long absence from professional football.
"I have a very special relationship with all my former clubs, except one: zero human connection"declared Simons in a post cited by Yaca Garcia-Planas.
Simons chooses Harvard Business School during injury recovery
New academic direction at Harvard
Simons has been admitted to the Crossover Into Business program at Harvard Business School, which is delivered online. This opportunity will allow him to deepen his understanding of the commercial side of sport.
"Football remains my priority, but I also want to keep learning and developing off the pitch"wrote the footballer on his LinkedIn account.
In another message, he added that “returning to the pitch remains my absolute priority. At the same time, I want to use this time to keep learning and investing in myself.”
The contrast between an injury that keeps him out of the World Cup and his decision to study at Harvard shows a forward-looking vision that combines sporting passion with personal development.
