Les Diablotins under pressure in Denmark to clinch Euro 2027
The Diablotins, Belgian U21 selection led by Gill Swerts, face each other this Tuesday evening in Denmark in a decisive match to reach Euro 2027. With sixteen points, they lead the group by twelve points ahead of Denmark, which has fourteen.
Group stakes
To secure qualification, a draw is enough, as in 2022, but a defeat would plunge them into the playoffs. The group has a two‑point lead, but a loss could leave them on fourteen points, level with Denmark.
In 2022, a 1‑1 draw had allowed Belgium to qualify. After the failure at Euro 2025, the Diablotins want to replicate that performance.
“The Danes have nothing left to lose,” warns the Belgian coach. He adds: “Given the progress made, I am completely confident, the group has considerably matured in recent years. Everyone wants to secure that ticket for the Euro.”
“A draw would be enough for us, but that is not what we are aiming for,” the coach reminds. He stresses the desire to win in order to earn the place.

Atmosphere and ambitions
The Diablotins have won their last two matches, 1‑0 against Belarus and 1‑0 against Wales. Last year, they had already beaten Denmark 2‑0 in the second leg.
Captain Matte Smets emphasizes: “The atmosphere within the group is excellent, we know the stakes and really want to secure this ticket. Taking part in a Euro is very important, it would be wonderful to experience it at a young age.”
He adds that Denmark plays very attractive football, plays offensively and has quality players. “A draw would be enough for us, but that is not what we are aiming for. We will do everything to win,” he asserts.
Simon Hamoir, specialist in foreign football, reminds that the U21 team is in Denmark to seek its qualification. In the Sports section, football media debate Mark Van Bommel’s coaching, some criticizing him while others praise his approach.
In case of success, Belgium will be present at Euro 2027, co‑organized by Albania and Serbia, and will be able to aim for the title among the Red Devils.
