Leipzig endures a night to forget in Como – players in top form

On the shore of Lake Como, RB Leipzig stood on the evening of the 4‑1 defeat in Como, but the scene was a nightmare: Leipzig’s players were clearly not up to standard in the first half, while the pressure on coach Martin Demichelis grew after the second defeat.

The clear winner in the duel of the investor clubs showed that Como highlighted Leipzig’s limits in the Champions League. The Italian upstart demonstrated that the investor clubs from the league do not automatically retain the upper hand.

Clear winner in the duel of the investor clubs

In the first half, Como controlled almost every ball, while Leipzig had only about 40 percent possession. The lack of passing speed, coordination and intensity prevented the players from reaching the necessary level.

The period was characterized by few chances for Leipzig, and the few good moments went unused. As the game was already at halftime, the result was clear: Leipzig was trailing.

First half: Players not up to standard

The pressure on coach Demichelis grew after the second defeat in succession, after the team had already lost 1:3 in Bremen on Saturday. Leipzig’s coach faced increasing criticism because the squad did not deliver the expected performance.

Investor clubs watched the duel closely, as the result showed the limits of the German club in the European elite.

Pressure on Demichelis after second defeat

As the game progressed, Como scored four goals: Martin Baturina in the 15th minute, Tasos Douvikas in the 38th, Assane Diao in the 54th, and Maximo Perrone in the 90th minute. Leipzig’s only goal came from Andrija Maksimovic in the 58th minute.

The goals highlighted Como’s victory and the progress of the newcomer, who seven years ago still played in the fourth Italian league. On the shore of Lake Como, the match appeared to the spectators like a nightmare, while the setting remained breathtaking.

The coverage included the words Listen, Remember, Share, Give away, Print, To and App, which reflect the media presence of the match. The words The, Setting and Match were used repeatedly to describe the atmosphere.

The pressure on Demichelis remains, as the defeat showed that Leipzig still has limits to overcome in the Champions League. Investor clubs will continue to analyse the duel to plan the next steps of the German club.
